How to write a CV that gets shortlisted

2 Nov 2026 · Hareeeng Editorial

Most employers in Lesotho and across Southern Africa shortlist from a pile of applications. Make yours easy to say yes to.

1. Keep it to two pages

Lead with a three-line professional summary, then your experience in reverse order. Use plain formatting: one font, clear headings, no photos unless the advert asks for one.

2. Show results, not duties

Replace "responsible for sales" with "grew monthly sales from M20,000 to M35,000 in six months". Numbers, scale and outcomes persuade.

3. Match the advert

Read the advert twice. Use its keywords honestly where they describe your real experience, and put the most relevant achievements first.

4. Check the details

Include a professional email, a working phone number and your district. Name your file properly (for example Thabo-Mokoena-CV.pdf) and send the format the employer asks for. Ask a friend to proofread before you apply.

5. List referees carefully

Ask permission first, and give people who can speak about your work.
